Interior Finish Carpentry
A reference-line-driven finish course covering room diagnostics, prehung doors, casing, baseboard, coping, returns, cabinets and closeout.
Entry requirements
- —Basic safe saw and drill/driver operation
- —Tape, square and level fundamentals
- —Manufacturer instructions for installed products
Competencies
- ◆Diagnose existing geometry and select visual references.
- ◆Install an operating prehung door with controlled reveals.
- ◆Produce repeatable casing and baseboard joints.
- ◆Fit casework to irregular field conditions.
- ◆Close functional and visual punch criteria.
Work it in order.
12 hours of guided lesson and field work are mapped below. Capstone completion may require additional project time.

Course capstone
One-room finish package
Plan and execute a supervised room package containing a door, casing, baseboard and a two-case built-in or cabinet mock-up.
Required deliverables
- 1.Room diagnostic map
- 2.Cut and installation sequence
- 3.Door and trim quality records
- 4.Casework alignment evidence
- 5.Final functional and visual punch list
Diagnostic planning
Existing variation and governing references are documented.
15%
Fit and geometry
Reveals, lines and joints are controlled across the room.
30%
Function
Doors, drawers and hardware operate without bind or drift.
20%
Craft quality
Cuts, copes, returns, scribes and fastener placement meet the supplied standard.
25%
Closeout
Punch work and evidence are complete.
10%
Assessment rule: 80% overall is the mastery target, but any unresolved safety, structural, code, or function-critical defect prevents capstone completion until corrected and rechecked.
